Light the Way to EqualityIn support of the upcoming gay marriage bill vote in the New York senate, BGHV and the Hudson Valley LGBTQ Community Center are joining Marriage Equality New York in hosting a series of candlelight rallies to show our support of gay marriage in the Empire State and “light the way to equality”.

The heart of this rally lies in the fact that marriage equality in our state is not just a gay issue, this is a human rights issue.  By not allowing LGBTQ people who are in a committed relationship to have that bond recognized by law is to create a second class of citizens who are not seen the same as their heterosexual peers in the eyes of the law.  While we encourage all of our gay community to come out and show support of this measure at such a critical time in its development, we also ask that each of you bring your straight friends, too – this isn’t just a gay issue, this is a human rights issue! We ask that all participants bring their own candle (or candles – the bigger our showing the better) and any pro-marriage signage that you wish to create and display.

The mayor of New Paltz has fully endorsed this event and we’ll be showing our support of human rights equality in our state on Sunday November 8th from 5:00pm to 7:00pm in front of Elting Library on Main Street in the Village of New Paltz.
