Prop-8-2With the demise of California’s Prop 8, Big Gay Hudson Valley residents have lots to celebrate this week.

While the ruling of Prop 8 as “unconstitutional” is a big first step, we’ve still got many more to go before Marriage Equality can be recognized in the Empire State – yet alone ALL the of The United States. That said, you can make a difference in the make-up of the New York State Senate this fall; so be sure to register to vote if you have not yet done so.

While there was a tremendous amount going on this past weekend, this weekend is a little lighter than normal. According to the Hudson Valley LGBTQ Center’s website, even the OLOC’s and the Gay Men’s Discussion Group are on vacation this month! That hasn’t stopped our friends with The Hudson Valley of the Balls, however.  The local Men’s Dodgeball Team – Sponsored by Cross Valley Medical & BGHV – take to the sand on Fire Island this weekend. Look for lots of photos of the fun next week!

For those of you who missed us at Big Gay Wednesday’s @ Babycakes this past week, our friend, Didi Barrett, joined us to meet with the GLBTQ community about her upcoming race for our region’s 41st Senate district seat.  Up against a firmly rooted incumbent with a questionable track record of GLBTQ equality advocacy, Didi’s running a campaign that, among many other things, is very pro-equality. If you didn’t get to see her on Wednesday night, check out our interview with her from this year’s Pride Preview Party.  To learn more about Didi and how you can help our community to achieve equality in the Empire State, visit her website at DidiForSenate.com.

As always, check out our community calendar to stay a ‘Mo in the Know and have a great Big Gay weekend!
