bghv weekend july 1stHey guys & gals – welcome to another B-E-A-utiful BGHV weekend! We had a great crowd for Big Gay Wednesdays at Babycakes last night and were lucky enough to meet Luke MacFarlane (of “Brothers & Sisters” fame)!   Luke (aside from being super nice and rather easy on the eyes) is in town this weekend only for a one-man show at Vassar’s Powerhouse theater. “Sam Bendrix at the Bon Soir” is a sharp & poignant look at a now-vanished world in Manhattan’s East Village.  Tickets are on sale now so don’t miss this chance to see a GREAT person and actor perform in Powerhouse’s intimate theater.

And for those of you wondering about our cover image this week, theater season is in full swing across the Valley! Our friends, Bill Ross (left as Frankenfurter) and Richard Prouse (right as Almira Gulch), are performing back-to-back at the Center for Performing Arts in Rhinebeck in The Wizard of Oz and Rocky Horror Picture Show (can we say gay classics series, much?). You can follow the yellow brick road now through July 11th and then come do the time warp again July 16th through August 1st (prop use encouraged!). The full schedule and ticket info for both shows are on the Center’s website, so get your thespian on and check them out!

For those of you dedicated to the continued growth of local, sustainable agriculture, the Poughkeepsie Farm Project is hosting a high-end in-the-field benefit dinner at its Vassar campus farm on Saturday July 17th. This meal, prepared by the amazing staff of Poughkeepsie’s own Artist’s Palate, will utilize products grown in that field to prepare the evening’s meal. All proceeds from the evening will help fund the efforts of the Poughkeepsie Farm Project. For more information and to reserve your ticket check out their website.

Now that Pride season has officially passed, don’t let the spirit die! We’ve got lots of great stuff coming up in the Hudson Valley this summer season that gives all of us a reason to be proud of where we live – which is why we’re hosting a special series of historic art walks through Poughkeepsie on July 24th in conjunction with the city’s Middle Main Revitalization group’s first annual street festival (more details to follow!). Be sure to drop us a line with any events you’d like to share with the community and check out our Community Calendar to “Stay A ‘Mo in the Know”.

P.S. – BGHV is hittin’ the road for some much needed vacation time, so bear with us as our updates slow a bit and R&R ramps up a bit. We’ll be back in action & ready to go in a couple of weeks!
