Welcome to another edition of Big Gay Hudson Valley weekend!
It has been a busy past 7 days here in the Hudson Valley and when you look at all that is coming up this weekend, there is certainly a great deal to keep the ‘mo on the go busy this week – and next as well!
We found a great new gay-owned ice cream shop in Hudson this week called LICK. Owned by Christopher and his partner, Jason, the store celebrated “Thank You Hudson Day” last Wednesday by offering $1 scoops of ice cream! We visited Hudson while looking for wedding bands for our August 1 wedding in Amsterdam, and we found some amazingly beautiful ones offered by by Shana Lee at her Hudson and Red Hook boutiques. More to come when she finishes making them.

The Middletown Recreation and Parks Performing Arts program is proud to present The Boy Friend. The Jazz Age lives on in this light, romantic spoof of 1920’s musical comedy. With its catchy tunes, period dances (including the inevitable Charleston) and winning sense of humor, “The Boy Friend” is a sparkling, tongue-in-cheek 1920’s romp. In the explosively funny off-Broadway smash hit that irreverently pokes,prods,teases and lampoons the Great White Way’s most famed musicals and celebrities… and always with love! Stageworks is one of the first regional theaters to produce this celebrated panoply of parodies spoofing Barbra Streisand, Mandy Patinkin, Liza Minelli and so many more from Fiddler to Hairspray!

While not gay, the scene at Cafe Bocca is cute, fun and eclectic. Serving light meals and coffees, teas, and other assorted beverages – often accompanied by live music and art installations, this new addition to Poughkeepsie’s “Mount Carmel” neighborhood is definitely worth checking out. And it has free Wi-Fi, too!

Check out the First Annual Fine Art and Design Auction of the Hudson Valley, proceeds from which will support The Empire State AIDS Ride and Angel Food East, a non profit volunteer program that provides hot meals and sustenance to Ulster County residents living with AIDS. The live auction, silent auction and lunch will be held on the grounds of a beautiful Williams Lake resort in Rosendale, New York.
