bghv weekend june 10thWe need to start off by saying that the Hudson Valley LGBTQ Community ROCKS!  Despite bleak skies, oppressive showers and muddy fields, nearly 1,000 of you joined us last weekend for the 6th Annual Hudson Valley Pride March & Festival in New Paltz! The energy was incredible and the crowd’s diversity & enthusiasm were a clear example that our community – and it’s allies – are as strong and vibrant as ever.  In case you missed all the fun (shame on you!), check out the coverage from the Times Herald Record, Your News Network, Mid-Hudson News Network, and even YouTube!

Keeping the Pride ball rolling in the Lower Hudson Valley region, this coming weekend is Rockland Pride in Nyack. BGHV joined these guys for the festivities last year and had a fantastic time – join them this year for a great day of fun, games & festivities.  The following weekend, June 19 & 20, we’re heading up the River for Catskill & Hudson Pride, so stay tuned for more information about their events very soon.

We were also recently sent a video courtesy of the Empire State Pride Agenda form current New York State Attorney General and gubernatorial candidate, Andrew Cuomo, speaking on the strength of our state’s LGBTQ community and his conviction for the passage of marriage equality in our own backyard.  Take a couple minutes to hear his thoughts and remember that we are the ones responsible for placing our representatives in office, so if their beliefs don’t jive with yours, let your phone calls, emails, letters, and votes let them know that!

With so much to see and do this month between PRIDE events in Albany, Catskill, Hudson, Nyack, and New York City, be sure to check the Big Gay Hudson Valley Community Calendar so that you too can stay “A ‘Mo In The Know” – have a great weekend!
