Hey everyone!  A big gay thank you to everyone who has been emailing, texting, tweeting and facebooking us over the last couple of weeks to inquire about the fate of BGHV Weekend.  Crazy turbulent work and end-of-summer schedules have kept us away from the blog for a bit but, we are glad to say, we’re back!  Your notes over the last couple weeks have been an amazing affirmation of the strength and size of our community and your hunger to stay connected and have all of our voices heard – thanks for keeping us on our toes.

We’ve been very busy lately with work on Didi Barrett’s campaign for New York State Senate, as this weekend’s cover image proudly conveys. Didi came blasting out of the gate this past week at a moderated forum between herself and Senator Steven Saland, hosted in Poughkeepsie by the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce. With over 200 in attendance, Didi was given a captive forum to speak on issues such as the MTA tax, job creation, education, and – our personal favorite – marriage equality.  For those of you that missed it, you can catch up on each candidate’s position via The Poughkeepsie Journal or WAMC.  BGHV is 110% behind Didi’s campaign of affirmation for the GLBT community, positive job creation for our region, and support of minority development programs, among many many other important issues.  Please read up on her campaign and mark your calendars for election day – Tuesday November 2nd.  We need to be the change we want to see in our own backyard – casting a ballot in a box couldn’t be a simpler way of doing that.

With the ascension of the cooler weather comes apple cider, layered outfits, apple picking, and HALLOWEEN!!  Teaming up with our friends at ARCS and roping in Barefoot Wine & Bubbly, Prephab DJ’s, and Superior Sounds among many others, we’re throwing the party of the season – our Halloween Spooktacular – on Saturday October 23rd. We’re jamming it full with a VIP reception, one-night-only performance of Frankensten: A New Musical, and a “Club Frank” deadly discotheque after party with ghostess Isis Vermouth.  The parties will be on Vassar Street in Poughkeepsie, split between the parlor at No. 9 & the theater at No. 12, and decorated by our Valley resident Halloween expert, Joe Netherworld.  Get your tickets today before we sell out….

Our calendar is filling back up with the students back in session and vacation season coming to a close, so check it out and stay A ‘Mo In The Know.  Any events we should know about?  Drop us a line!
