Hey all – sorry for the lack of activity on the blog the last couple of weeks.  Having just closed on a new house in Poughkeepsie, life is a whirling dervish of paint and plaster dust.  We’ll be back to more active posting very soon.   As the warmer weather approaches and we all crawl out of hibernation, drop us a line with the happenings in your big gay life – we want to hear your story!

It’s time again for the Oscars.  This year’s roundup isn’t quite as gay as last year’s “Milk” sweep, but Colin Firth did get a nod for his work in “A Single Man”.  Check out the complete listing for this year’s ceremony courtesy of towleroad.

We’re going to dedicate this weekend’s update to the upcoming Hudson Valley LGBTQ Center’s Gala.  In times of tight budgets, attendance at galas is understandably first to get scratched off the to-do list.  In light of this hardship, the Center’s efforts are more important than ever before.  While area employers are looking to slash healthcare coverage budgets, they’re meeting with them and explaining the importance of domestic and same-sex partner benefit extensions.  While school budgets are being trimmed down to cut out extra-curricular activity funds, they’re working with area school districts on a “diversity round table” that will open the lines of dialogue about the needs of gay-straight alliances and LGBT youth.  When movie tickets cost $12 a pop (and that’s without popcorn), they’re home to the nation’s 4th largest library of GLBT themed films.

Saturday March 13th
6:00p to 11:30p
The Grandview, Poughkeepsie

Please consider attending this year’s gala – aside from being a great cause, it’s a fabulous time! Hosted by the swanky Grandview in Poughkeepsie, you get picturesque views, delicious food, flawless drinks and music by our backyard’s own DJ John Martin of Superior Sounds.  Click the image below to pick up your tickets.

2010 Hudson Valley LGBTQ Community Center Gala

This Monday is also the Southern Dutchess Chamber of Commerce’s annual “40 Under 40” Award at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie.  Tickets for this event are super limited so jump on it now if you’d like to attend.  This event honors and awards the achievements of young professionals who are dynamically reshaping our region.  Big gay shoutout to our friends Ken Snodgrass of Locust Grove, Nick Shannon of St. Francis Medical Center and John Greenan of the Dutchess County Association of Realtors on their wins this year!
