bghv weekend may 27thWelcome to Memorial Day weekend – the official start of summer!  Thanks to all of you who joined us last weekend for our first ever Big Gay Wellness Day, presented by Cross Valley Health & Medicine. While the event may have passed, Cross Valley’s local expert staff is continuing to open the doors of their gay-owned, gay-managed and gay-affirmative practice to our LGBTQ community.  Give them a call and set yourself up with a health care provider who understands the unique needs of our community.

In case you haven’t heard the news yet, we’re throwing a bit of a party this weekend.  BGHV’s 2nd annual Pride Preview Party is this Friday, May 28th, at Locust Grove in Poughkeepsie. We’re kicking off pride season with a BYO picnic featuring live performers, drag bingo, a pit BBQ truck and more big gay fun than you can shake a stick at!  Plan out your big gay summer with all of the Valley’s LGBTQ community groups, pride organizers and sassy fun allies in one spot.  Check out the Pride Preview Party page for all the details and ready your picnic basket.  We’re going on rain or shine – it’s gonna be great!

The Pride Preview Party is also the kickoff to Hudson Valley Pride Week.  The Hudson Valley LGBTQ Center has lined up a week full of events starting this Sunday May 30th that you can check out on our calendar – poetry slams, movie nights, a wine & cheese party, a T-dance and, of course, their capstone event: the Hudson Valley Pride March and Festival in New Paltz on Sunday June 6th.  To help you save some green and get in on all of the fun, they’ve launched their Pride Pass, which you can pick up on their website for reduced admission to all of their events.  To get the full rundown on all of the big gay festivities going down across the Valley, log on to BGHV this weekend as we post our “Pride Season 2010” update.

The Hudson Valley LGBTQ Center also put out a call this week in search of a new Executive Director. This first-time position is open to energetic, creative, and visionary leaders who will oversee all operations of the Center, expand and promote Center programs and serve as the Center’s spokesperson.  Think you’ve got what it takes to help shape the future of the Hudson Valley’s LGBTQ community?  Show ’em what you got!

As always, check out the community calendar for the full roster of happenings and drop us a line with any events you may have going on so that we can share them with everyone.  Have a great weekend!
