powerhouseBeginning June 26, Vassar & New York Stage and Film’s Powerhouse Theater will celebrate its 25th anniversary season and will feature new plays and musicals by Pulitzer, Tony, and Obie award winners. Powerhouse provides its audience a window into the creative process of some of the nation’s top artists and writers as they engage in the rigorous development of plays and musicals, before going on to larger stages in New York, across the country, and around the world. The 2009 Powerhouse Theater season, a silver celebration, will run through August 2, on the historic Vassar College campus in New York’s Hudson Valley. Season subscriptions and individual tickets are on sale now.

This summer’s lineup is divided into five categories:  Mainstage, Martel Musicals (presented in the Vogelstein Center for Drama and Film), Inside Look (in the Susan Stein Shiva Theater), Readings and the Powerhouse Apprentice Company.  Show slated for performance include Ninety, The Burnt Part Boys, Whisper House, Shoe Story, and many many more.  Check the website schedule for showtimes and ticket prices.

When attending shows, don’t also forget about Summer Suppers at Cafe on the Quad.  Vassar-local restaurants will be offering light prix fixe menus, with beer and wine available, from 5:30p to 8:00p July 3 through August 1.  For full menus and restaurants, check the website.  Mark your calendars for July 17-18 when our friends (and big-time allies) Aaron from The Beech Tree and Heather from Bittersweet will be sampling, followed by July 31 & August 1 when our (big gay) friend Tanner will be serving from Babycakes Bakery Cafe.
