BGHV’s 8th annual celebration of the summer Pride season returns to Poughkeepsie’s Locust Grove Historic Estate this Sunday June 12th for our classic Summer Community Picnic.

Whether a veteran picnicker or newbie to the party, here’s what you’ll need to have the best al fresco experience ever.

It’s All BYO

BYO-Picnic-QCP

There won’t be any food or drink vendors on site – this is a fully BYO affair, folks! Pack up a basket or cooler with all of the eats and libations you care to enjoy. Alcohol is permitted for those 21+. If you want to cook on site, small tabletop propane barbecues are OK but nothing bigger, please.

We’ll have trash cans on site and appreciate everyone helping us to keep Locust Grove beautiful by carrying out whatever you carried in.

Oh, and don’t forget the sunscreen!

Rally Your Squad – Everyone is Welcome

We want to meet all of your friends and family! This picnic is famous for being an event that everyone – gay, straight and everywhere in between – can enjoy. Kids under 14 are free and dogs are welcome so long as they’re kept on a leash (and you do that considerate owner thing by cleaning up after them).

Take a Load Off…

Summer is all about kicking back and relaxing, right? Be sure to bring a picnic blanket or folding chair so that you can chill in stylish comfort.

…But Make it Fabulous

We’ve got some amazing prizes in store for the evening’s most fabulous picnicscapes! Get crafty & creative with your al fresco spread (remember, we at BGHV love props) and you could be a lucky winner! We’re looking for winners in the following categories:

  • Best Food & Drink Spread
  • Best Queen-Inspired Theme
  • Best Use of a Picnic Blanket

Keeping Busy

The Locust Grove Estate’s beautiful gardens will be in full bloom and picnic guests are welcome to explore them. To keep the young-uns (and young-at-heart) busy, our friends at Mill Street Loft will be hosting an arts & crafts station with some super cool projects that you can make & take home.

Rosendale’s DJ Ali will also be setting the mood by spinning her custom variety of vintage vinyl garden funk for the first half of the party.

Is Trixe Going to Be There?

Hudson’s Trixie Starr will be hosting her own twisted version of the classic 70’s game show, Match Game. It’s all about quick wits and double entendres as two lucky contestants try to match their answers to those from the audience. Did you make a match? You win a prize! No matches for you? You win a less fabulous but still gratifying prize!

Drag Show & Dancing

As the sun goes down so do the queens come out to play! Later in the evening, DJ Squirrelsuit – famous for his Queenston Homo Disco – will pick up the pace as we head into Locust Grove’s spectacular West Gallery for some dancing.

Local drag superstars Avi Munster, Pinky Socrates and Valkyrie Hail will also be performing in their finest queen-inspired regalia.
