CENTERstage Productions is pleased to announce auditions for Tracy Lett’s Pulitzer & Tony Award winning play, August: Osage County, directed by Tracy Carney.

A family crisis reunites the Weston family and unexpectedly unearths a host of secrets, lies and unsettling truths. A no-holds barred, wickedly funny portrait of an American family.

Location: The CENTER for Performing Arts at Rhinbeck

Performance Dates: May 18 – 27, 2018. Fri & Sat at 7:30pm, Sun at 3pm.

Seeking: Seeking an adult cast of 6M & 7W to work as a focused and fearless ensemble. See detailed character descriptions below.

Prepare: Familiarization with the play script is strongly encouraged. Cold readings will be assigned from provided sides. There is a possibility of improvisational explorations.

Beverly Weston, age 69 – Father, patriarch, alcoholic, one-time world class poet, polite, soulful, melancholic

Violet Weston, age 65 – Mother, matriarch, suffering from mouth cancer, addicted to prescription drugs, devious, cynical, sharp-tongued

Barbara (Weston) Fordham, age 46 – Eldest daughter, college professor in Colorado, has intense need to control everything, is nearly as sharp-tongued as her mother, forthright

Ivy Weston, age 44– Middle daughter, teaches at a local college, mousy, patient exterior hides a passionate woman

Karen Weston, age 40 – Youngest daughter, newly engaged, lives in Florida, vibrant, bubbly, likes to talk about herself, but also lies to herself

Bill Fordham, age 49 – Barbara’s estranged husband, college professor in Colorado, patient man whose patience is being tested

Jean Fordham, age 14 – Barbara’s and Bill’s daughter, smart, curious, more naive than she wants to believe, pot and cigarette smoker

Steve Heidebrecht, age 50 – Karen’s fiance, seemingly a good guy, though truly an opportunistic predator

Mattie Fae Aiken, age 57 – Violet’s sister, high-strung, antagonistic, matter-of-fact, constantly belittles her son

Charlie Aiken, age 60 – Mattie Fae’s husband, lifelong friend to Beverly, genial, tries to lovingly control his wife

“Little Charles” Aiken, age 37– nervous, beaten-down by his mother, a tender-heart trying to show strength

Johnna Monevata, age 26 – Native Cheyenne, live-in housekeeper, hard-working, empathetic, grounded, mostly-silent witness to the mayhem of the house, good cook

Sheriff Deon Gilbreau, age 47 – reliable, caring, former classmate of Barbara’s, may or may not still be sweet on her
